Tri-County Housing Development Corporation, Ltd. Receives Grant from Impact Harrisburg

Harrisburg, PA October 24, 2016 – Tri-County Housing Development Corporation, LTD. (Tri-County HDC) received a grant of $350,000 from Impact Harrisburg on October 20, 2016.

Tri-County HDC was one of 13 organizations awarded a grant from Impact Harrisburg, and, more specifically, was one of five awarded under the Community Building Project category.

“We are very grateful to Impact Harrisburg for this grant. This money will enable us to move forward with our project located in Harrisburg’s Mulder Square,” said Gary E. Lenker, Executive Director. “Our efforts to rehabilitate properties in this part of Harrisburg in partnership with the City can now continue and we are excited for the future of this neighborhood.”

Mulder Square is located in the South Allison Hill area of Harrisburg bordered by Mulberry and Derry Streets. This multi-year, multi-phased project includes the acquisition of 11 properties and the eventual creation of 14 units of affordable housing for low- to moderate-income individuals or families. The overall costs for this project are anticipated to exceed $2.25 million. The City of Harrisburg has provided support for the project by approving an allocation of Community Development Block Grant
(CDBG) funds for FY 2015-16. In addition, the Dauphin County Board of Commissioners has awarded a $75,000 Dauphin County Gaming Local Share Municipal Grant for this project.

The rehabilitation and reuse of existing housing stock and land helps to achieve two of the City of Harrisburg’s “Consolidated Plan Goals,” as well as helps to satisfy goals of the Tri-County Regional Planning Commission’s “Regional Growth Management Plan.”

Its mission is to promote and develop affordable housing for low- and moderate-income individuals and families. It is a 501(c)(3) non-profit and is a certified Community Housing Development Organization (CHDO) for the City of Harrisburg, and Dauphin and Cumberland Counties. Since its creation, Tri-County HDC has developed nearly 700 units of affordable housing for area families.
