Receives $33,000 PHARE Grant
Harrisburg, PA – Tri-County Housing Development Corporation, Ltd. (Tri-County HDC) will receive a grant of $33,000 from the Pennsylvania Housing Affordability and Rehabilitation Enhancement (PHARE) fund. This funding is a portion of the Realty Transfer Tax earmarked through Act 58 of 2015 to support affordable housing statewide. This grant to Tri-County HDC is one of 68 initiatives in 38 counties that will receive $12.03 million through the PHARE fund. Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) staff working on the PHARE program received and evaluated 140 proposals requesting support for housing initiatives in 49 counties.
The PHARE grant funds Tri-County HDC receives will be used to redevelop approximately one acre of vacant, formerly blighted property on Adams Street in the borough of Steelton. This multi-year, multi-phase project will develop 12 affordable, for-sale townhomes which will be sold to low- to moderate-income families through Tri-County HDC’s “Lease with Option to Purchase” Program.
Executive Director Gary E. Lenker, said, “We are pleased to announce that we are receiving this grant of PHARE funds. This project is a collaborative effort by the Dauphin County Redevelopment Authority, the Borough of Steelton, and Tri-County HDC. The PHARE grant funds represent one of the remaining pieces of funding required to begin this otherwise shovel-ready project. We are very grateful to the Commonwealth for this support.”
The overall costs for Phase 1 of the Adams Street project are anticipated to exceed $750,000. In addition to the local community support by Steelton Borough and PHARE grant funds, Tri-County HDC will use its FY2016 Dauphin County HOME Funds from the Dauphin County Infill Program, and Dauphin County Gaming Grant funds to complete this project.
